THE ORIGIN OF “SCREECH” OWLS DON’T SCREECH

“Screech.”  I wanted to make sure that I knew exactly what the prompt meant, so I decided to search that word on Google.  For some reason, when I originally entered “screech” on Google, I got the character from Saved by the Bell.  To specify that I wanted the definition and not the character, I put a space in my search and got the creature that became the focus of my Inktober drawing.

PRELIMINARY SKETCHES

When I was scrolling through the owl images on Google, I happened upon this fellow.  This owl caught my attention because of his expressive face.  I thought that it would be funny to add a pun, and “Who me?” ended up being the perfect one for my drawing.  As you can see in the picture above, the sketch evolved into a more cartoon-like owl.

FINAL DRAWING

In the preliminary sketches, I tried coloring in the eyes and beak, but I thought that it made the owl look more dazed than surprised. Therefore, I decided to keep the inking process simple for the owl.  Hope you enjoyed today’s Inktober drawing.  Please check out the Contents page if you want to read more about my experiences that can be summed up as, “Culture for the Uncultured.”  Make sure to come back tomorrow for Day 10!
